You wouldn’t have guessed winter started the next day when the 2025 Captain’s Trophy Final was played Saturday at Green Acres, what a magnificent day Melbourne turned on weather wise. Our finalists were Rodney Andersen and Xavier de Cort. The small crowd out on course during the day was treated an extraordinary display of skill, culminating in a thrilling conclusion. Both players were equivalent to 41 points on their respective handicaps through the 18 holes, but 18 wasn’t enough.
On the 17th hole, Xavier demonstrated his composure by parring the hole, to get the match back to him being 1 down. He then hit an amazing approach on the 18th to set up a birdie to win the hole, extending the match into extra holes. Both competitors parred the 19th, but Xavier clinched victory on the 20th hole with another solid par. This victory marked his first board event win.
Reflecting on his triumph today and through the prior rounds, with all going to extra holes or the 18th! Xavier expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “I just love match play!”
Congratulations Xavier on winning the 2025 Captain’s Putter.
