Pennant Corner

Please see this week’s YCSP report from Captain PD.

This week saw Green Acres host R6 of the YCSP competition. On a perfect day the best of the best ventured onto our home deck and what a home deck we presented. Needless to say, the Yarra Courses are a proud mob, and we all want our course peers to experience the best we can offer on the day. Green Acres was resplendent in its presentation. The greens were cut and rolled, bunkers smooth and fair, fairways lush and green, the pins in some challenging positions and our new furniture both inside and on the balcony was on full display. Feedback from all concerned was extremely complimentary and on behalf of the Senior Pennant Squad, thanks to all the hard work our staff from the front office, food & beverage, pro shop and of course the shed put into presenting our great club to our peers in the Yarra Valley.

The results on the day had a few surprises and the run home for us now requires a win in all contests. What is in our favour is that we play the teams who are also competing for that coveted top 2 position. With contests pending against Kew, Heidelberg and The Heritage at Eastern. Rosanna and Kew in the next 3 weeks we find ourselves with destiny firmly in our own hands. We are well placed in 4th position and ready to pounce. Our biggest issue is trying to get our best 10 on the park and for this week against Kew trying to find 10 squad members who are available.

Bryan Harper who generously gave up his time to be a spotter on the day (as opposed to watching his son Sam play for Victoria against SA in the Sheffield Shield) positioned himself on the RHS of the 10th to assist players with any balls that may have ventured into the billabong. To keep himself amused he did some stats on all 80 players that played the hole. Out of the 80 players only 55 found the fairway and even less (21) hit the green. Now we all know the 10th is a tough hole but these stats show how difficult it really is with all the players handicap range between +2 and 8. A big shout out also to Graeme Harris and John Vidovic along with Ernie Mensforth who assisted on the day ensuring our guests had simply the best experience they could have had at Green Acres.

And finally, to Tristan and his team in the pro shop, Andy and the front office crew, Dylan with his amazing F&B team and the team in the shed – these guys ensured everyone left Green Acres with a smile on their face.

Our next match is against Kew at Eastern at 1115hrs. We have made a few left field selections this week with Travis Cox coming out of retirement after his +6 last week to ensure his dream of playing in the 4Ball is just that – a dream and Serge Sabbadini and Jerry Yin being recruited from the bar during the weekend!

Our team is as follows:

1. John Vidovic

2. George Zhang

3. Travis Cox

4. Rodney Andersen

5. Graeme Harris

6. Brett Ryan

7. Mike Wood

8. Paul Downey

9. Jerry Yin

10. Serge Sabbadini
