Yarrawonga Getaway 2024

The Annual Green Acres Getaway (GAGA) to Yarrawonga was a resounding success, with 36 GA women making the trip. Our first evening brought everyone together in Villa #68 for a delightful feast, featuring an expansive charcuterie table brimming with freshly made treats. The evening also included announcements regarding teams and the agenda for the days ahead.

Trip Highlights:

  • Putting with one hand on two of the holes (to the surprise of many, it was easier than expected!).
  • Building connections and playing golf with new people.
  • We welcomed our first-time visitors to Yarrawonga, who found the getaway fabulous and are eager to join next year.
  • The lively “Putting for Prizes” competition.
  • The ever-active “Swear Jar,” which raised over $1,000 for our new Women’s Sub Committee charity, You Matter, thanks to generous contributions (not just from swearing!).

You Matter supports women and children who have experienced family violence by furnishing and setting up their long-term accommodations, creating ‘Havens of Hope’ that empower women to regain stability, independence, and community connection. Their services focus on women and children across metropolitan Melbourne.

In addition to golf, 10 members participated in a well-organized Bridge competition, thanks to Pippa Devlin.

We enjoyed two days of golf on both the Murray and Lakes Courses. Our newly appointed GA Women’s Captain, Fiona Bunting, did a stellar job managing the teams and selecting the Team Captains, who provided fantastic support. Prizes were awarded to the top teams and runners-up from both days, as well as for Nearest to the Pin in two Handicap Categories.

Post-golf activities included Bridge, shopping in town, a trip to Rutherglen Winery, retail therapy at the Golf Shop, and even a well-deserved “nana nap.”

Our second evening was celebrated at Digger’s Restaurant, conveniently located just a short walk from our accommodation. The final night added an element of surprise with a “leisure wear” dress code, bringing everyone together for some hilarious and entertaining team and individual activities—mission accomplished for a night of laughter!

It was heartwarming to see everyone enjoying themselves and making new friends. Special mention goes to our own GA Coach JB, who probably had the most fun out of everyone and participated enthusiastically in several activities.

A huge thank you to our generous sponsors, whose support allowed us to provide wonderful prizes and showbags for all attendees:

  • House of Golf
  • Goodr Sunglasses
  • Drummond Golf (Preston & Frankston)
  • Home Instead
  • Fisiocrem
  • Brown Brothers
