OUR HISTORY

From a foundation membership of 239, Green Acres Golf Club has grown to embrace over 1400 members.

The name "Green Acres" was put forward in 1947 by Mr G.B. Oliver, who conceived the idea of building a golf course on this site. He believed that the bordering Yarra River would enable the course to be kept green. Since that time, with a few brief exceptions, this has been proven correct.

There have been times, particularly in the 1950s and 1960s, when the Yarra has been over generous and inundated the course, requiring swift action to prevent part of the course falling into the river. Control measures by Melbourne Water in the river’s upper reaches have reduced flooding in recent years.

Since the then Governor, Sir Dallas Brookes, played the first stroke in December 1950, the Club has played an active role in the Victorian golfing community. Apart from winning numerous men's and women's pennants in inter-club competitions, Green Acres has hosted the annual Boroondara Cup in conjunction with neighbouring Kew Golf Club, the Yarra Courses Open and many VGA and WGV sponsored events.

Green Acres Golf Club has also become known for its popular summer clinics, which introduce the game to a new generation of golfers, and the Annual Charity Day which has raised many hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities since 1961.

OUR CLUBHOUSE

The redeveloped Green Acres Clubhouse opened in 2012, provides members with superb facilities to match the quality of the course. The Members Bar, Members Lounge and function spaces offer the perfect place to catch up with friends after a round while overlooking the course towards the Yarra River. The Green Acres Clubhouse also features exquisite function spaces for weddings and special events with stunning views.

OUR ENVIRONMENT

Green Acres is located in an environmentally significant area, forming part of a major ecological corridor along the Yarra River. The course is surrounded by stunning native flora and fauna including several grand old River Red Gums. As custodians of this unique site, Green Acres takes great care to ensure that these natural assets continue to thrive.

The Club’s Environmental Management System is monitored by The e-par Group, a leader in the implementation and management of international standards. The best practice design of this system ensures playing surfaces cope with the stresses of play while the health of the area’s natural environment is protected.
